Edinburgh and Willow Foundation

Hello! Yes, I am back! After what seems like an age, I back with a new look for the site and *gasps* a new post J

2016 has been a hell of a year so far, chemotherapy was bleugh, had to be taken off Herceptin as it was damaging my heart, I'm down to one boob, and about to start radiotherapy in a matter of days.

But…I feel good, happy, blessed :)

All through my treatment, everyone has been telling me that I need a break, and honestly, I was yearning for one, a break from cancer, hospital appointments, being woken up at ungodly hours by the small humans and just have the chance to be me again.

Whilst I was still having chemo, I came across a charity called Willow Foundation.

Willow Foundation, is a national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfill uplifting and unforgettable Special Days. When I first heard about the charity I was apprehensive about applying as I assumed it would be for more seriously ill patients, but I filled in my application with the help of my breast cancer nurse anyway and I was accepted within two weeks. Once accepted, they give you six months to decide what you want to do for your special day.

Most people use the opportunity to take their children away to Centre Parcs or to zoos, theme parks and what have you, but to be honest, with two children under three, it would be more stress than it’s worth, and I know they wouldn’t remember any of it. So I jumped at the chance to do something with my husband that would be fun and give us a chance to reconnect and with Edinburgh on my top 5 places to see in the UK, it was an easy decision to make!

It was a truly great weekend, we drank of cocktails, danced the night away, saw the Edinburgh via the bus tours which Willow paid for and of course we had to try the Scottish delicacies, deep fried haggis and a deep fried mars bar all washed down with a bottle of Irn Bru!

It was the first time, in a very long time, that I didn't think about cancer, treatment, I was enjoying the moment and just living life to the full.

Here are just a few pictures from our weekend. It’s such a beautiful city, until next time Edinburgh.
